“He’s back. He’s back and he’s coming for me,” says Jessica Jones in the first full trailer for Netflix and Marvel’s gritty-looking Jessica Jones.
The aforementioned “he” is Kilgrave, one of the most menacing super villains Marvel has brought to the screen. Better known as The Purple Man to fans of the comics, the character, played by David Tennant in the upcoming Netflix series, has the ability to control minds and make people do whatever he wants using just his voice.
If you thought Daredevil was dark, then buckle up, because Jessica Jones has dealt with some serious shit! She’s trying to rebuild her personal life and career, and we find her working as a sardonic, badass private detective in Hell’s Kitchen in Jessica Jones. She’s the owner of a wicked case of PTSD, battling some very dark demons from the things Kilgrave made her do.
The Professor Moriarty to her Sherlock Holmes, Kilgrave is an omnipresent and psychologically scarring character to our protagonist, looming in the background and driving the series to its darkest corners. “I’m the only one that matches you, and we’re inevitable” he’s overheard saying to her in the trailer, above.
The first look gives us a glimpse into Jessica’s strength and powers, introduces us to Luke Cage, and gives us a peek into many of the horrible things Kilgrave has the ability to orchestrate. We also meet Hope (Erin Moriarty), another of Kilgrave’s former victims.
Shade VFX worked on the entire Jessica Jones series, creating invisible visual effects to support the tough-talking noir detective and her quest to defeat demons from within and without.
All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones premiere on Netflix on November 20th, just in time for your Thanksgiving binge watching.
